At the moment I have a battle with Vodacom Accounts i.t.o. their debit order system. When I received my Feb statement and invoice on 8 Feb, I noticed that the due date was 28 Feb, but the statement reflected the debit order date to be 26 Feb. I immediately requested them to change their debit order date to the 27th, because that is the date when my money gets transferred and if they debit my account on the 26th, there would be no funds to cover the debit order.
They ignored my request and on the 26th the debit order was returned due to insufficient funds.
I incurred bank fees, as well as an additional R85 which was added to my March account. My issue with them is how their Invoices are due at the last calendar day, e.g. 28 Feb, but their debit orders go off on 26 Feb. I took this up with them, but the guy who dealt with my query, is adamant that Vodacom's debit orders go off on the last working day and not the last calendar day!
Normally I don't have a problem if the debit order goes off on the last working day, because this date always falls after the 27th. However, with Feb being a short month, the last working day was on the 26th, although the Invoice was due on the 28th only. Hence my written request to them on 8 Feb, giving them enough time to accommodate my request.
Could someone please tell me if I have a foot to stand on if I take this further. I just feel that, if I get an Invoice which is due on a specific date, that is the date which is binding and that I should not be penalised if they demand the money before their due date!
Even if the penalty fee involved is relatively small, for me it is about the principle of the matter! I have been a Vodacom subscriber for 10 years and this is the way they repay my loyalty.
