Vodacom Edge a major problem!

Hi there everyone!
I am very new to this site as I have just joined. Very new to the Internet world!
Having a MAJOR problem when connecting to the Internet. All goes well until the connection switches to Vodacom Edge. Everything slows down or I cannot connect at all. Is there any way in which I can stop the Edge connection? It is truly infuriating, especially when one is busy with a specific task.
 
Depending on the device you may be able to limit your connection to 3G only.
 
Depends on where you are as well (coverage, indoors etc).
