vodacom email or MTN email

Hi all!

Vodacom and Mtn both offer free email for their customers...

MTN states that they will send u an sms whenever u receive an email but does this cost anything?

Does Vodacom also send u an sms when u receive an email?

If you need sms notifications of email [as opposed to checking your email account online on your cell via GPRS|EDGE|vanilla-3G|HSDPA], then I suggest that you get yourself a GMail account and forward emails from your GMail account to a free Vodacom|MTN email account for sms notifications...

Great idea ic!.........I got a gmail account and i'm on vodacom prepaid

But does vodacom offer free sms notification? MTN does but Vodacom says "daily" sms notification.... Does "daily" mean everytime I receive an email?

No idea, but I have just performed some moderator magic to grab the attention of forumites from both the MTN & Vodacom forums :).

I tried this one, but its not up to much! The sms is free, but it is a daily notification - you have to select the time that it will send the notification, and it will only tell you that you have x mails waiting. You can set it to notify you every day or only if there are new mails. Afraid it didn't do much for me!
 
Well if MTN offers instant sms notification for each email... here I come!!

A few days back, I installed GMail's Java application on a JasJar, and I can honestly say that this is a killer email application that's 1000 times better than getting smses when an email comes in, best to stay connected via GPRS|EDGE|vanilla-3G|HSDPA on your cellphone and use the GMail app if your phone runs it, otherwise use the browser-based GMail on your phone...

BTW, years ago, in the UK, with O2 [MMO2], I setup my primary email account to forward to an O2 email account that sent me an sms per email - was great to start with, but became extremely annoying after a while which is when I started adding filters to only forward certain emails, but I still had to delete umpteen smses to allow new smses to get through and usually I ended up just deleting smses without bothering to really read through them...

Try GMail and the GMail J2ME application and see if you really want smses anyway :).
