Vodacom Fiber router alternative?

Hi,

Vodacom + Vumatel are the first guys to attempt to roll out Fiber in our area. It's a small closed off community (not an estate) so I guess there's little interest from everyone else.

Anyway, so they have a month-to-month option available.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use another ISP on the same fiber network after installation is done, since vumatel is involved?
And, would I be able to use my own router instead of theirs? I presume they use PPPoE authentication? If so, has anyone been able to obtain their own account details to use their own router?

you going to have to look at the contract they put in place - i would find it odd that Vumatel would go exclusive with vodacom as an ISP - so it might just be mis information?
Normally if its Vuma the network is open access so any ISP.
if it is Vodacom Network then it won't be - so you need to check who exactly is the backhaul provider.

This is the deal: https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/services/internet/vodacom-fibre

I don't see anything specific to my question on their FAQ: https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/terms/fibre/vodacom-fibre-vumatel other than the cancellation fees involved, which is understandable.

I'm not sure if i understood correctly your OP then.

Why are you going with Vodacom as your ISP?
If you take vodacom they cover your installation cost - but if you cancel before 24 months is up they will charge you that installation cost - if you can afford that because you already planning not to have them - why don't you pay for your installation and then go with any other ISP.
Like i said if its Vumatel backhaul you're not forced to go with Vodacom

They're the only Fiber provider to date who would install Fiber at my house.

As stated above. Other Fiber providers don't have coverage here.

Ok, so I would be able to use another ISP, in future, if I want to. Ditto.

Very confusing - see Vodacom is both a provider (backhaul) and ISP
but you mentioned Vuma so i assume they the backhaul? I dont understand if Vuma is the backhaul why would no one else one to come? odd that only vodacom would install.

yes - have you already taken installation with Vodacom?

I assume that Vodacom will pay for the main rollout and hope to recover the costs in the long time. When I spoke to them in December they only had 53 signups. Other providers wanted a minimum of 40% signup and there's about 900-odd houses in this boomed off area.

On the order form they only have the Vodacom+Vumatel packages available so I am not 100% sure what the deal is.

I signed the order form but haven't heard back from them yet. Been using RIAN LTE for the past two years but, as you probably know, the RAIN network is crippling. My wife has a home based office and I often work from home too so I need something stable and reliable.
