Hi.

For the last week or so I've been having major issues with packet loss on my Vodacom Fibre. Speeds are still great (200up and down) but due to the packet loss my gaming on local and international servers, as well as my VOIP during the day is an absolute F*up. I've tried multiple games that have telemetry options to show you ping, packet loss etc and it's crazy. Warzone & Counterstrike I'm sitting with 15-20% packet loss, Apex legends 18-20% on every server in the list. And using my SIP client to phone my clients during the day I constantly hear from them "you're breaking up so bad"

I came across this while doing some testing: http://iperfcfo.vodasecure.co.za/

Some results from my tests (all tests done with no devices on Wifi and just my gaming PC on connected via LAN, also tested from a second PC on LAN just to be sure:

I logged a ticket last week already and I've been phoning them every day for an update and I keep on getting the normal response "we're looking into it and we will get back to you". To date apart from the odd SMS or two nobody has contacted me, I keep on having to contact them :/

I've also done everything a person can do. Reset the router, got a new fibre flylead, tested from LAN and Wifi on multiple devices. Same story. Speeds fine, but insane packet loss.

Anybody know if there is a Vodacom rep on here, or have a contact that I can maybe get in touch with?

Thanks a bunch :D

If I may throw a another spanner in your works, NEVER EVER get Vodacom Fiber!! They sell you lies and offer "free installation, free connection, free router" etc, but NEVER mention the T & C - you must sign a 24 month contract for all the "free" stuff. Also they never mention the FUP - ridiculous if I might add - Throttling a line to 2mbps!! All I can recommend - get out of this contract as soon as you can and migrate your line to another ISP, clawback fees will apply - the usual "we're looking into it and we will get back to you" excuses apply - an no resolving your issues will be done - you are lucky if they ever get back to you... Lots of negative comments on Hello Peter. Vodacom is useless bunch to deal with. People are tricked into this fiber contract - I heard of people that never signed up for this - got Vodacom fiber installed - and are stuck for 2 years.

Hi @MEG101

Thanks for the input.

Yeah I was an idiot, seeing that Vodacom does the infrastructure in the area, I thought it would be best using them as my ISP as well. I must say in the past they have been prompt with support, notifications of downtimes and getting me back online.

Now with this, it's a nightmare, really really bad service.

Guess I chalk this up as lesson learned. I did some quick canvassing and see I can get Cool Ideas, Afrihost etc all for about the same price and same package on my address. Obviously the physical infrastructure still stays Vodacom though, but hopefully another ISP gives me better support.

Pleasure my friend, you can either go with Cool Ideas or Afrihost - they both offer great service - uncapped unshaped unthrottled internet with No FUP - use as much data as you like. Since you already have the fiber line - you should be able to transfer the line to either of them free of charge - since migrations are free (afaik) Talk to @AfriNatic - he will sort you out in a jiffy - he has always provided me with excellent service. A friend of mine has PureFiber with Afrihost, and it is true uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled service with No FUP. Pure internet bliss!!

should have read this post Ashwell , no packet loss for the first week now I'm stuck with them

So after working with Vodacom Support for over 2 hours today, doing multiple firmware versions, upgrades, restarts etc I was basically told "sorry, packet loss on your fibre is not really something we can fix for you as there are too many factors involved to investigate and resolve now, your line is up and connecting at a good speed that's the best we can do"

:/

So after 6-7 month of faultless, smooth connectivity, I now have to "be happy" with 10-15% packet loss in my games. Great.

i had a 20/1 adsl with no loss @ all

hi more info please , i'm feeling like woodpecker on this stage

The packetloss is likely related to the line but it's worth giving the MTU setting a try.

Depending on the router you should find the MTU setting under the WAN settings of the router. I believe Vodacom fibre uses an All in one Nokia ONT/Router so might not be easy to set that.

@cavedog Thanks for the input thus far.

Only options I have under LAN are these:

Seems a lot of the router is locked out, I don't even have options for my own firmware upgrades etc. Maybe the Admin deets on the router itself is limited and not full Admin

I remember years ago with ADSL I had a billion Bipac 7404 router that had that "issue" the details on the sticker only gave you limited options. Grasping straws here, as this thing seems to have very limited options compared to what I am used to seeing on similar devices.

So here's a weird thing.

Power went out in the area last night during a thunderstorm. When the power came back on my fibre was SMOOTH and PERFECT. All games I tested (local and international) 0% packet loss, no rubberbanding. Perfect.

This morning after I woke up tested again just to check, and its F*ed agian, packet loss hitting 30% and up in 2 games.

Sigh.

I am still busy working with a guy from Vodacom, lets see what they say about this one....

Hi Guys, I am so happy some people have started to notice it too, I started having major packet loss of 30%+ from 3 weeks ago Monday going now for 4 weeks. I phone everyday and get told my issue is being escalated, I still haven't been contacted by the technicians. What a ****** joke of an ISP. I have done everything possible to fix it on my side, from testing lines to using vpn's, when I play on my mobile data no packet loss what so ever. I go test multiple of my neighbors and friends lines same story so its a ****** problem everywhere, it pisses me the **** off knowing that I am spending more on data then what I pay a month at vodacom. Every time I phone they tell me a secondary technician will contact me soon. I am on the verge of ***** leaving them. Cuz WTF I AM PAYING FOR!!!!!! For god sakes to think an ISP can be worse then telkom even is unimaginable. I play FPS like CSGO majority of the time in FACEIT I cant even walk ****en straight without packet loss ******** me.

Yup, 100% the same thing this side. I've been phoning them everyday and I am getting 100% that response "Its been escalated and lvl2 or lvl3 support will be in contact for resolution.

how would

how do I go about getting rid of my Vodacom fiber if they have taken over my area and not allowed any other providers to supply internet? surely there is a law prohibiting such things or can I talk to the competition commission because their fiber service is atrocious.

Is this Vodacom fibre or just ISP?
