VodaCom/fone Data cards on MTN

I see quite a few MTN users tested to see if they have HSDPA coverage on a Vodacom data card with simply inserting their sim cards???

Can't we then just go and buy a Vodacom/Vodafone data card and everything's fine?

Surely the red colour of the card isn't that bad and I understand the availability is much better then MTN's...

Or am I missing the point here...

If you pay full retail price for the card then you can use it on MTN. But Vodacom won't provide any assistance in configuring the card.
MTN should have cards on the shelf before the end of the month and they will be considerably cheaper than the Vodacom cards.

Stay away from any MTN broadband products. They are inferior to Vodacom in every way, and the service you'll receive from them is diabolical. I have been trying to fire them for the past month, but they refuse to cancel my contract. This despite the fact that I've been overbilled, lied to, and subject to utter incompetence. The networks are erratic, even EDGE. You'll end up using gprs all the time...you may as well use dial up. I now have a Vodafone 3G card. It works. No mess, no fuss.

Yup. Even if you only live 2kms from a 3g tower, like I do.

Speaking from the depths of the Eastern Cape (Coffee Bay atm) no probs with EDGE connection and card usage. I agree that backup admin is bad, but Vodacom is no better.

We did a comparison of MTN and Vodacom for a few months and MTN came out better in erms of throughput, acess and sustained link speed.
