I bought a prepaid Vodacom SIM in October last year for a backup phone. Every month I made a brief call out to keep it active.
In December I was redirected to a message "Your cellular service has been suspended. Contact your service provider about the reconnection of your account".

After several visits to the local Vodacom branch I was told that my SIM has been barred because of suspected fraudulent activity and I need to call Forensic Services.

There is no answer from this number (011 646 1530) only "The subscriber you have dialled is not available at present".

Anyone else have this problem? It seems like complete hogwash to me. I would ditch the SIM but the phone won't work on my spare Telkom SIM

@impracticaldogg -
1) Compile a message clearly explaining this problem which should include past service references to [email protected] allow for ± 7 business day to responses ensuring you get a SR number.
2) If no response to your satisfaction after 7 business days. Compile a properly and clearly constructed message containing all SR in the title to [email protected]. We are sure that you should receive contact from advanced support with a resolution.
3) This has been most effective method to resolve ALL or ANY other issues in general.

@Ivanr I have sent a message. None of the agents I have spoken to have been able to give me an SR for some reason.
I'll post here if I don't have success.

Vodacom useless, their walk in stores can only sell you stuff. They cannot even assist with account queries or contract issues. What they can do, is give you a number to call, and then you have a faceless entity to deal with.

There isn't much you can do if you don't get prompt service. I now pride myself on swearing at any Vodacom agent who still dare to call me.

Sir/Madam - Please note my advise as stated was merely an suggestion that usually has a reasonable prospect of being resolved.
NB: I am NOT employed by Vodacom just an consumer understanding the corporate system as aid to navigate when required.

Lastly considering the facts of your original posting the following facts should be highlighted.
  1. When purchasing those "Pre - RICA SIMS" you can expect issues like yours.
  2. Vodacom regularly scan their system for SIM's like those.
  3. Being party to fraud using any SIM can result in similar issues.
Wishing you "Cest La Vie" and all of the best in resolving your problem Sir/Madam - Cheers

No problem. You didn't contact me so I didn't swear at you.

My last Vodacum prepaid, pre-rica'd sim was registered to a Mamalesedi Kwante. A 150kg woman who is dead. I got a no-service error after a few months as well.

No problemo - I'm giving your advice a whirl. As for your point 1, I bought the SIM last year and did RICA it. So I don't think that point holds..

That is the logical thing to do :) But I'm so annoyed that I'm either going to have this sorted out or go to MTN
