Good day

Firstly - If i am posting this on wrong section of the forum - apologies

This is my problem

One 31 Jan 2015; I received a call from Vodacom stating that my account is in arrears and i told them i dont have any contract from any mobile operator. The lady i spoke to stated that I need to send affidavit stating i dont have a contract with vodacom and a copy of my ID to fraud.analysis@vodacom.co.za

I went to a vodacom store and learned that my account was opened at GreenStone mall and I made a trip to the store. The incorrect store refereed me to the correct store - there are 2 vodacom stores at greenstone.

This store could not provide me with the copy of ID that was used to open the account. My first name is wrong (but close) and the rest of the names are correct on their contract as well as my ID number. The rest of the information is incorrect.

I still have my original ID so how my ID was used - i dont know.

The guy that assisted me said i should give them the affidavit and copy of ID and he will call me within a week. I did as requested and provided him with ID copy and affidavit. To this day - i received no call from the store and I couldnt find their numbers. I was not provided with a reference number either. On March 31 i receive another call from vodacom asking me about this contract stating they havent received any affidavit and copy of my ID.

I was told to fax my copies to 011 546 8888 and call them on 082 1946 (this number is useless without a vodacom contract number)

This are my issues
1. When vodacom checks if I have a contract with them - they scanned my ID book - which popped up my contract
- Why is this method not being used when they create new contracts? They type in the ID number manually when entering a new contract. I am starting to think Vodacom staff is the one that got the first name wrong in the first place

2. Why is it so difficult to provide me with the copy of ID used to open the account. If you can give me the copy of ID then you surely dont need me to provide you with affidavit. In fact Police station did not ask for my ID when i did the affidavit - so anyone can clearly commit fraud using my name.

3. The number vodacom provide 082 1946 only accepts valid contract number. So It means I cannot call vodacom to inquire about this issue since their 111 number is always busy.

4. I have looked for fraud contact details on the vodacom website to no avail; so now I have to wait for their response on the fraud.analysis@vodacom.co.za or their call back when they want to know when am i going to pay them the money

I just want this contract to be cancelled - before it starts affecting my credit.

Who else can I contact at Vodacom???

Surely you have a friend or family member who is on Vodacom? Use their phone to call the number.

Tell them to **** off. Why should you have to prove you did not take out the contract?

This number is a collections number - you have to call with a "contract" number; not just any vodacom number - and the automated machine says provide a number in arrears

But thanks for the suggestion.

Can the branch provide you with 'your' Vodacom number? Would be cool if you could just phone it.

What happens if you're a Vodacom data customer? Then you might not have a Vodacom number. How would you phone to enquire about payments in arrears?

Why should he have to? I had this same crap with Virgin Mobile. In order to take out a contract, they would surely have to have your RICA/FICA documents - so why can't they provide it when requested? Fortunately for me, VM refunded me eventually (since they even had the audacity to debit my bank account)...

Obviously he shouldn't have to, but justice has a way of not prevailing with cellular providers and ISP's. May as well play along and cut your losses.

When Outsurance took out a policy for me without my consent, it took six months and a lawyer for them to admit their mistake and reimburse me for the saga.
