Hi,

I live in a complex that only has vodacom gated services packages available for phone/data lines. These are grossly overpriced and I want to install a Telkom Line. Will this be at all possible? I have phoned Telkom and told them all of this and they didn't raise any red flags. So I ordered the phone line today. Has anyone else tried this before? Any issues that I should know about? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to check your body corporate rules. This would the only problem that I could foresee. The problem is that many of these estates (especially the bigger ones) don't want a rats nest of phone lines and this might cause you issues.

But if you have a big issue with them then take it up with the body corporate and get them to negotiate a better deal with Vodacom. You may, however, find you are out of luck, body corporates are notoriously finicky.

My complex had a network run by a separate company from Telkom and when I approached Telkom about getting ADSL they originally said no but I managed to find someone already on the estate who had managed to get a line installed and once Telkom had his number they managed to do mine. See if anyone else has Telkom in the complex and use their number to help Telkom locate you and whether they can install a line for you.

@pope24

I have phoned the centre management and She stated that we can but telkom needs to ask VGS for permission to use their infrastructure or something like that. I phoned Telkom and they said it is fine. My roommate and I have been able to get a better deal from VGS but even better deals are becoming available daily. We are going to try an renegotiate but I don't see them giving us uncap internet for the same price as mweb.

Well when I phoned telkom i gave them the centre managements number as a way to find me. They were able to and said everything looks fine. So here is hoping all goes down without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply guys.
