Hi

I got myself a vodacom contract. It came with a Nokia 6230i Vodafone. When I got it, I could send and recieve MMSes, surf with GPRS and I could IRC with my java applets.

All of a suddern everything stopped working. I couldn't gprs, mms and use my java applets to irc. I went the vodacom website and got the vodacom mms and gprs settings for my phone. Now the gprs and mms are working, but I can't irc from my java appletts.

Any idea how I fix this?

Vodacom GPRS is terribly slow - even using it with a PC it slows down progressively the more you use it. And at R2 a Mb it's not cheap!

This is certainly not my experience with Vodacom (when they are online ;)

No speed issue on my side - between 65 and 80k most times. But as for the cost; let's not go there....:D it could be a lengthy debate...

My problem doesn't seem to relate to speed.
Does anybody know where I can get the VLive! settings from?

Dont you need an IP address aswell?

------

Quoted: CodeMaster

-Connect using: vlive
-Internet mode: Http
-Use proxy: Yes
-Proxy address: 196.006.128.012
-Port number: 8080
-Username: <leave blank>
-Password: <leave blank>
Save profile, and make sure to select the new vlive profile. With this profile high-lighted, press 'More' (right soft-key), and select <Advanced> then <Change homepage>. Under 'Name' type Vodafone Live!, and under 'Address' type http://live.vodafone.com/
Save and exit.

I set mine manually on my old 6680 as per that link, without any problems. And all over the show now everyone tells you to take out the proxy address

oh, ok... my phone stilll has that proxy... must I take it out?

Taking the proxy out: I dunno, but there's been quite a few posts where people were having problems, and they were advised to remove the proxy settings

I called Vodacom about my problem and nobody could help me. Typical. What should I do? Anybody know someone at vodacom that can help?

um from my knowledge u cant use the Vlive profile as a modem and u cant use it on java apps on your phone. and if u can then u are lucky

Even if you use the vlive profile the network will switch you over to the internet ap if you try to access anything outside of vlive.

The solution:

Vodacom GPRS settings + custom access point called internet.

Which APN are you using to connect?

Try and create a 'internet' APN and connect with that.

I suspect you're on pre-paid with a VLive phone?

If so, it's possible that you are being stopped by the VLive APN. Switching to the internet APN on your phone should resolve this.
