Fight against spam calls in South Africa

Vodacom and MTN have committed to reducing spam calls on their networks, and Vodacom has deployed real-time monitoring and machine learning tools to block suspicious callers in South Africa.

South African cellular users have become increasingly frustrated by the surge in spam calls reaching their numbers, which has reduced voice call volumes as more users become reluctant to answer.

Commit to "reducing" - they are in the position to stop it but, that would cut off a very profitable income stream.

I have blocked any calls that come in without a name. Now I hardly get any calls.

I have 100% proof of that recently. I got two SMSs from a scam site about unpaid traffic fines. What was revealing was that the same message was sent to two SIM cards in my possession. One is my regular SIM, the other is a brand new SIM, which I foolishly registered on the VodaPay app. Only Vodacom knows that 2nd SIM is active, and it has not received any messages or phone calls from any other source, other than the scammers...
