Can anyone cast any light on this question? What's the latest news IRO Vodacom wanting iBurst (shares or otherwise)?

This is a pertinent question, given today's conference...

Does this partnership mean that iBurst will use Vodacom's towers to deploy base stations and improve coverage?

At least with vodacom getting involved we might see some ibust heads rolling and hopefully a better service, the downside could be that they want more money or hit us with a hardcap.

I just don't like the sound of it. Telkom owns 50% (I stand to be corrected) shares in Vodacom..if Vodacom gets 10% stake in iBurst this means that Telkoms owns half of that....they'll be selling 5% of iBurst to Telscum!!!!!

Some names: VodaBurst, ICom, BurstCom or maybe DomCom?

The last is my personal favourite.

Well I dont think iBurst is big enough to make Vodacom change their name.

They would both probably just stay the same or iBurst would simply be incorporated into Vodacom.

K, I chatted with Antony McKechnie of iBurst at the conference. I asked him specifically what was going on with the Vodacom/iBurst/WiMax story. The jist of it was this:

Vodacom's buying 10% of iBurst's shares was a "cementing" of their relationship. (Vodacom is obviously interested in iBurst's WiMax license)
It turns out that iBurst will only be rolling out fixed WiMax, targeting current leased line customers. It will not be compatible with current tech, nor will it replace it.

So there. Nothing to be afraid of. It was made quite clear to me that Vodacom does not have control, management influence, etc. over iBurst.
