Hi all,

Just wanted to check in on something. My phone died recently and is still covered by Vodacom insurance. They've said they can repair the phone, repair cost is 4k+ for an LG G4. The excess is R600? That seems quite high excess to me, am I out of touch or is that roughly right?

I've never claimed before.

Just paid Discovery R500 excess for a new iPhone 7..
As JGibbs mentioned, try get a new phone

Yeah, Vodacom says it's impossible to get a different phone of equivalent value. And the repair is going to take 2 weeks apparently.

Don't know why an equivalent replacement to the repair value is so impossible or how they thinking leaving a customer without a phone for weeks is acceptable. This just confirms my initial thoughts to move to a new provider.

Probably cause it'll cost a fraction of what they're quoting you to repair.

My phone is under my household insurance and the excess is R350.
Networks know how to rip you off on insurance.

Insurance is a funny thing.

Car insurance, on it's own, is expensive. Household insurance is relativly cheap. Adding your car to you household insurance drops the price significantly. Specifying items on household is also relatively cheap. A specified item is anything you take away from your property like phone, camera, laptop. Unspecified items are those that generally stay on the property. Like pc or tv. But it is always better to have high value and unusual items specified so that they can be replaced at their value. Like a gold plated tap as opposed to a chrome plated tap.
