so i sent my phone in for repairs this weekend, i know for a fact that i have insurance on the phone, i made sure by checking previous month statement. now im notified that repair will cost R2100 due to insurance was deleted on the first of may.yet i was never contacted by vodacom for any insurance related issues since i received the phone. any of you ever experienced this?

Why do people continue to use mobile operators insurance..

why do people continue to be dicks?

At least my insurer doesn't randomly cancel my insurance and I am paying a quarter of what the mobile operators would charge..

But hey...
good for you, unfortunately i cant give you a golden star, social distancing ect.

How was it canceled? Communication should have been received from you to cancel, can they provide that to you?

Easy, tell them you never canceled it and they must fix their screw up.

No need to get involved. Also use the word ombudsman, they hate that.

In terms of the Short Term Insurance act only you can cancel without giving notice. The insurer has to give you 30 days notice of any changes to your cover.
The only thing that can be changed is if you haven't paid for the premium and then only on the second consecutive non-payment can cover be cancelled from the day of the first no-payment.

Yep this is why I advise everyone to stay clear of non traditional insurers because these idiots like the anc don't know the law and are not capable or compliant.

Tell them to fvck off and pay or you are going to the Ombudsman which will cost them more than the damage and they will have to pay the repairs as well.

Please use a broker for all your insurance requirements.

I lent a 1GB sim card to a friend in need once so he could look for work etc. & like any good citizen I requested a block on the amount spent, just in case.
Friend went way (a couple grand) over the limit, when querying the block at Vodacom shop they said they can see the block was activated, but immediately afterwards de-activated by 'the system'.
And no they can't see from the entry why or for what reason but they'll investigate. End of discussion.. they took my money and despite escalation I never even got an answer back from the 'investigation'.

Immediately converted both myself & 2 kids' contracts to prepaid, now I decide how much of my money I'll expose to these skelms. Oh, kicked the friend too & stopped helping people out & whatnot.

Bonus is I pay like 79c a call my spend on mobile went from thousands to hundreds. How's them apples Vodacom, you skunk?

Contact vodacom's complaints department, if they still say you cancelled it then tell them to provide proof. Even if it was done over the phone they are legally required to keep copies of the conversation.

Problem sorted. Wife opted for an upgrade 3 months before end of contract. So now this insurance that was canceled was for the old phone because those 3 months ended end of april.the new phone sent in for repairs is still covered. But the claims department got confused and processed repair as a non insured claim.but after a couple minutes of phone calls they sorted it out. So the access fee is just R430. Way less than what outsurance wants to charge me.

Good that you got sorted. Excess.

On a side note. What’s the best option for mobile insurance for phones purchased used?

Whoever you are using for car/household insurance.. none of the ones I have been with have asked whether the phone is new or used, just asked for value, IMEI number and that's it..

I don't understand the RSA mentality of mobile.contracts. phones aren't subsidised like they used to. Pay as you go plus the phone of your choosing is much smarter.

Well, those people will be buying it on contract will likely buy it with credit then (their phone of choice will be iPhone super-duper or Galaxy what-what), and unless it's a credit card there are loan initiation fees and such.
