Has anyone else noticed Vodacom's network time being out? My phone is about 2mins ahead. A colleague at work, also on Vodacom is 2mins behind actual. Checked that both are set to receive network time. Checked our work network, internet time servers, MTN and CellC - they all show the correct time. Just Vodacom seems to be out. Not sure what affect that may have on some apps.

mmmm my phone also set on "automatic" which I assume it means that it is getting its time and data settings from Vodacom? Mine seems to be 3 minutes fast.

I have set my clock manually to the second using http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/south-africa/cape-town

I have been having issues with my phone GPS not getting a lock, and when it does get a lock at times, navigation is very inacurate. I took my phone outside now and the gps activated and got a lock almost immediately. Can a inacurate clock on your phone affect GPS at all?

Yes. Not sure of the details but GPS does rely on an accurate clock. Something to do with the time difference between signals from different satellites

Going to test it on Monday when I drive to work if the navigation is improved. The GPS on my Meizu M2 Note was so bad that I actually could not use it. It would take forever to get a lock, and when it did and you start driving it would have me on a road that is like 1 km away from where I actually am, and jump from place to place, and then loose the GPS lock etc. Was horrific. Can you imagine that happening if you were in Johannesburg CBD? A pretty young blond boy like me would not last for 20 minutes!!!! :crylaugh::crylaugh:

Will report back if the correction I did on the clock improves the GPS navigation Monday.

That's very interesting.

I noticed the other day that my phone was a few minutes off the time on my PC which is synced with NTP. Didn't think much of it at the time. Figured someone on MyBB would notice and it would get fixed. :)

But I have been having huge issues with GPS the last while. My Sammy tab can't manage better than 200m accuracy and my HTC refuses to get lock at all.

Standard GPS doesn't need a clock since it gets that from the satellite. It's possible though that A-GPS uses the clock in part of its algorithm.

I'm in Durban. If i set my phone to auto it jumps back 2 minutes. Weird.

Mine is 2 minutes fast. If I set it to manual, and back to automatic, it jumps 2 minutes ahead straight away.

I also confirmed with 2 other work colleagues, who also have the incorrect time. Strangely enough it only seems to be an issue with Android phones, iphone vodacom users are not affected.I just had a support chat with vodacom, they didnt know about this as an issue, and promptly closed the chat....
