Hi everyone,

Its my first time i post here.

I just noticed today 28 Dec 2017 that yesterday 27 Dec 2017 a debit order of R799 has gone off my account from vodacom, so i proceeded to phone Vodacom where as they said a online upgrade was done on my account.

I got a number from that lady 1-34102507548550, i then proceeded to get a affidavit from the police station where i then went to Vodcaom at East Gate. The consultant there was very polite and helpful and we then checked the account, he told me there was no dispute opened on the account and then proceeded to open a Fraud dispute and gave me the following number 1-34113284038552.

I just want to know what else can i do to speed up the process or is it basically a wait it out game?

I have phoned accounts to cancel the stop order and to make it a cash payment as well, where i will just be paying the original R75 for the contract and not the R799.

Im starting a new job on the 8th of January, so i wont have much time to sort it out each day, unless i phone during lunch times.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Quinton

Go back to SAPS and register your Fraud complaint obtaining a CAS Number. Send a copy of your Affidavit with a carefully constructed Email containing your second last Reference number to [email protected]

Can i go to my bank and do a reverse order with the affidavit and fraud dispute papers?

Just reverse the debit order at the bank. Now if you do that what might happen since the fraud case is still going to be investigated they will suspend your account for non payment but it would be the only way to stop them from debiting your account again. Make sure you open a case at the police as advised. Vodacom will blacklist that device that the fraudster got.

thanks for the advice, luckily my number i use is on my dads account, this number was just a 1gb data sim for my ipad that i got to get some credit record.

Would it be fine if i did a reverse order on my account then? Generally how long does a case like this go?

Really not sure about the turnaround time but I think you should atleast expect to wait 1 month.

Also since your Vodacom account was compromised you may want to keep a close eye on you credit record just in case. Also make sure when this is resolved that Vodacom does not list your account as late payer on your credit profile.

Thanks Cavedog, appreciate the advice.

Going to the bank now and then to police station to open up a case quickly.

Did a reverse on the order and went to SAPS, they said they need a IMEI number of the phone to be able to open up a case of fraud.

If any online upgrade is done, u receive sms notifications immediately. How did you miss that? Or did u even receive any notification?

A jump from R75 to R799 means a change to another package, you should definitely have received an sms notifying of the change

This happened to me about a year ago on VC as well. Same story with regards to it being a data sim that was upgraded to a new package + phone etc. The only notification that I received was per email that my new sim should now be active at 1am 2 days after everything had been done.

Process to resolve it was to open a case at police, hand in affidavit at vodacom, get it escalated to fraud department and then hound them.

I also removed the debit order on my account and now pay it manually.

All in it took about 3 months before everything was resolved and a credit finally passed.

You know what I hate about these things is that it is "assumed" that you are the one that needs to sort it out, Vodacom are the one who got duped here, they are the ones who opened/upgraded an account without doing a proper job of verifying, let them sort out the mess

You are so right and I would hold them accountable for costs etc.

@OP hope you get sorted and good luck with the new job

Yep, this has happened to me as well. Strangely also in December 2017. I only noticed it this month when they tried to debit my account with R 3383.55 and I freaked. I did not receive any sms or notification of this upgrade. It is ridiculous. Noww when checking my bank account I notice that they debited me last month with an extra R 257.95 as well.

this seems to be a very common trend with fraudulent upgrades. It happened to me last year which took about 2-3 months to be resolved by Vodacom. For my own sanity, I called Vodacom at least once a week for a status/progress update to see if all was on track to be resolved. This was the only way I felt re-assured that this would be resolved as they dropped the ball at some points in the process. Make sure that you keep a log of all the credits that you are due and that those amounts are credited.

I'm really surprised that Vodacom does not have measures in place to reduce this from happening, it seems to catch most people off-guard. The scary thing is that Vodacom is probably writing off millions as a result of these fraudulent upgrades...

They don't care it's another sale and that's their main concern.
