Vodacom OOB and data limits

This seems to be a topic that causes much pain. I've read a couple of threads on here but many of them are old, so I have a question to ask.

I am a happy MTN customer (a rarity I know) but I am considering the Galaxy Tab s 8.4 and MTN are not offering it. Vodacom has it with a 1GB bundle.

Now, the issue in light of the many heated discussions on here....

The package comes with 1Gb data. This should be sufficient. If not I'll add. But my concern is that day when your kid decides to watch Netflix and is not on wifi but using your data. My MTN contract cuts me off immediately when I've used up my data and I can add a top up if needed. Does Vodacom allow this? Do they cut you off when your 1GB is used? Can you set this limit anywhere with them?

On Vodacom I would say 1 gig isn't enough and it's very easy to add more data *111#dial it's simple and works well

Thanks. But do you get cut off after your 1Gb is used up? I'm scared of this OOB shark everyone talks about...

Yes we do. Just be sure to tell the consultant you want it on the Top Up package. All standard data deals have the top up counterpart running at the same time for the same price...BUT .... you wont get the second bundle night owl on top up. So on the open contract, you will have 1gig anytime usage + 1 gig night owl data. Top up does not come with the night owl.

Thanks! I'm looking at upgrading online but I see no place to choose the topup option. Presumably I'll need to go instore for that? Can a regular be changed to a top up at a later date?

The problem is that you're looking at the wrong Tablet.

MTN has the Xperia Z2 Tablet. That's the one you want.

But they don't have an 8.4 inch?

Also R399 with 1Gb data vs R229.
 
Thanks! I'm looking at upgrading online but I see no place to choose the topup option. Presumably I'll need to go instore for that? Can a regular be changed to a top up at a later date?

mmmmm I would suggest rather do it on the top up package from the start if that is the option you want. I have had issues migrating between the promo packages. Also, migrations are only allowed after 3 months of a line being acivated.

Sorry, and one more thing... the contract being upgraded is currently being used by the GF on her S3. Would this upgrade to a data contract take over that number? Could she somehow still use that number on pay as you go?

We can load a call limit (this is for usage on calls, sms, data .... anything that incurs a charge) .... but data billing can be a bit delayed, and especially if you download a big file like a movie or something the billing might not update quick enough, so by the time the billing updates and the call limit kicks in you might be R500.00 over already kind of thing, so it is a safety net, but also a best effort service.

She will be able to use voice calls on it still, at the applicable tariff rate.

Indeed. Although I see you quote the as a top up, which is what I want isn't it, but online I'm not sure it did. Great if it is.
