Vodacom plans big broadband push

All taken with a great big pinch of salt. Is this what substitutes for journalism these days? How much did they pay MyBB for this advert?
 
If Vodacom wants to compete, it better the current 3G services. The current connection in Cape Town (Claremont) drops constantly. Frustration!

tbf i don't think it's a large stretch of the imagination to believe that vodafone's approach will be different from telkom's. especially when you consider that that information seems to be "public" knowledge.
 
Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys said that the company was involved in rolling out fibre in South Africa and was also in discussions to develop a new submarine cable system.

I think Vodacom has the ability to make this vision a reality. We all want more competition for Telkom, right?

The more submarine cables and fibre connections to our network the better, I say. As long as we get more data flowing in and out of the country I wouldn't care too much who put it there (but I'd still be very thankful). Hopefully this means that the dropping of the dreaded data cap is just around the corner (like 2010?), but I'm not placing any bets just yet.

Maybe as Vodacom gets entrenched as a fixed line provider for southern Africa it would attract bigger competitors to the fray. Then we'd get INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ADSL (200Mbps anyone?) and I'd be stoked. Vodafone? Bell? Verizon? Hopefully they are watching... :D

I guess we'll have Telkom, Vodacom, Neotel and MTN to choose from for fixed line data services soon. If one treats you wrong, move to the next one. I like that idea...

One small step toward uncapped & unshaped ADSL in ZA, one giant leap for ZA Internetz! :p
