Vodacom Receiving SMS & OTP Issue

I have an issue with Vodacom which I hope there is a resident representative that can help me. The SIM is a prepaid sim on a Prepaid LTE package and is inserted into the SIM slot on a Laptop. There is enough data on it as 100Gb was loaded just last week. I used to log into My Vodacom on the website to check my usage and have the OTP delivered to the Laptop where the sim is inserted by using Microsoft's Operator Messages APP to read the SMS. This worked until Wednessday then something on the network must have changed, since nothing on my side changed.

I spent the whole day today with Customer Care, trying to resolve the matter, but they just give me USSD instructions that does not work. When I take the SIM out of the laptop, and insert it into a Phone, the SMS comes through, but obviously then having removed the Laptop's sim, I've killed the data link.

Data still works fine and I can connect and use as per normal. I can also send SMS via the laptop fine. Anyone that can help?

Thanks for this! I've been experiencing a similar issue since yesterday after porting my cell number from MTN to Vodacom.

A pleasure. While searching threads to resolve my issue, I read in another thread that you need to ask them to "Check Routing" expecially after porting. Hope that helps.

My OTP issue still partially persists - I've tried every and anything at this point. It seems like for some apps / companies where an OTP is sent; I just don't receive it at all. I've cleared my blocked call list in the hopes it would resolve this issue.

I experienced the same with some Banking and Telegram apps. I guess it depends on whether the company has its own SMS gateway or uses a provider, and that provider's routing is not properly set up. Sometimes, about 24 hours later, an astray SMS seems to arrive when it is no longer needed. I have not had an issue with any Vodacom OTPs since they resolved the matter. The issue is usually with third-party companies.

Had similar issue, some companies acknowledge that there are problems with certain Vodacom numbers specifically, in any event work through the following:

  1. SMSC number is set to: +27829119.
  2. Content services are unblocked.
  3. No SMS barring.
  4. Check that SMS Scam protection is turned off on your phone.
  5. Truecaller etc. is off for SMS.
  6. Confirm that WASP content services with DNC are unblocked, usually takes 24 hours or so. https://dnc.org.za/
