Hi Everyone
I just need some advice or comments. Please bear with me through my story.
Three years ago I moved into a complex. At the time we had perfect Vodacom reception with our cellphones, but were not able to access the Internet at all. This was the case for over a year until one day I have been informed that Vodacom had set up a sender in our complex.
I took my laptop and connected via my 3G card and what do you know – I had a low 3G connection. I went online and purchased Windows 7 operating system, which I downloaded in a couple of hours. It was fantastic.
A couple of months later we started experiencing with the 3G connection continuously dying for weeks, at times months, on end. We continuously complained with Vodacom as well as on HelloPeter. Every time Vodacom responded and a few days later we had 3G connection again.
This happened about 175 times this year alone.
When there is no 3G connection available we are on GPRS / GSM and get speeds of no faster than 2-4 Kbps. This makes working impossible. Websites, like MyBB takes around 2 minutes to open. We are unable to download e-mails with attachments or even open various websites.
We again complained a couple of days ago as 3G was down again.
A few minutes ago I received a call from a rude Vodacom person who informed me that we, in fact, do not have 3G reception in our area and never had before. He said that they will take a decision on whether 3G will ever be implemented in our area.
I explained my situation to him and told him of download speeds I had of up to 250Kbps when downloading big files. I asked him if that was not a 3G connection, and he told me it is impossible that it was done.
Now, I spend on average 10-25GB+ on bandwidth a month, working from home on the Internet. Is it possible to use that amount of bandwidth in downloading large files on a connection with a max of 4Kbps?
Now, can this be possible? Or, is this just a way Vodacom used in saying: “you complained too much and we are now switching of the 3G permanently, as the problem can’t be fixed”?
