Hi

I have an iPhone 3G and I use an MTN sim card which works 100%.
I bought the phone from someone who got an upgrade on their vodacom contract. However, when I put a Vodacom sim in the phone it just keeps saying 'no sim' at thew top left of the phone.

I used my MTN sim to activate the phone initially.

Why would this be happening. Surely the phone is unlocked seeing that an MTN sim works fine?

Any help would be appreciated

I would guess the vodacom sim card is defective. In the past I had a sim card that didn't work in some phones. I think I was told it was from a bad batch or something, I got a replacement sim from vodacom that worked in all phones.

Yeah I thought the same until i tried the sim in the iPhone 4 and it worked fine. But now the MTN sim that I have that is working in the 3G doesn't work with the 4.

I am completely baffled!

Ok so it's a micro sim. The adaptor is probably holding it in the wrong place.

Yeah that might be the case. I went and bought a new vodacom sim and stuck the mini sim(normal size) into my existing iphone 3g and it works. So i cut the new sim to be a micro sim and it doesn't work in the iphone 4. I have a diy vodacom micro sim that does work in the iphone 4, and when i compare the diy micro sim's, i see that the chips are actually different in shape and look.

Aaargh! Frustration!!!
