Vodacom SMS roaming in Japan

Konichiwa.

I have been using SMS roamer and it has been working fine until I got to Japan. I see on the Vodacom roaming website that Softbank and NTT Docomo are both Vodacom roaming partners in Japan. Occie, JV, any specific reason this might be? could it be my phone? AFAIK Japan uses GSM too.

Japan iirc only uses 3G...if you dont have a phone that supports 3G 2100mhz it wont work. If your phone is set to 2G only, please change it to 2g/3g or 3G only.

Thanks! That would make sense considering the phone I used for roaming doesn't have 3G.
