Brainteaser here,please advise...

Got a vodacom 3g modem giving me internet & email connection to my pc.
I have got outlook 2010.
No problems receiving email but get the following error sending:
"Server error 554 5.7.1"
"Helo command rejected: Please setup a hostname (FQDN)"

I have used smtp.vodacom.co.za and smtp.vodamail.co.za as my outgoing servers.
Have googled that error but cant find a solution

Any ideas?

many thanks

And the above is your 10mil dollar question, will send you banking details later :p

But for now answer my question, and you could be assisted. Been there done that. According to VC the change was done for security.

Would be nice if they told people before doing this....

lets just say I had 3 days of fun.
PC name may no longer be user, no matter what the username is. And that info is only known to VC's advanced tech support ;)
And to speak to them is an issue.

And this is supposedly gonna help them with spam filtering.

And so by the way...... VC has not shared this info with 3 other ISPs. ISPs who provide email to clients.

:wtf: this not gonna help with spam filtering at all...

Rather block port 25 outgoing, force client to use imap/pop3s and spam on port 25 will be nonexistent.

But interesting nevertheless....

FWIW had a site on 8ta that needs to send out daily mail reports.

But port 25 outgoing is blocked on 8ta (good move).

Mailer app doesn't understand things like port 587SSL and the such  Had to set up hMailServer at office, listening on port 26 (and relay to our mail server via port 25), and set up this mailer app to use port 26 to send mail.

Now remote site can send mails. Best of all, no pesky spammers trying to inject their spam on my mail server :D

Took me a while to figure out that 8ta blocks port 25 outgoing, and a while to explain to the project damager just what is going on..... Fun times.

Dang spammers making it difficult for us all

They are apparently working on that from their side. So that will cause more fun later
