Hey so I did a swim swap for my mother because she still has that old 32kb blue sim card with kak network. Okay cool so I thought since I'm already in the mall why not ask the Vodacom4u store to do it for me since it's "free"? Asked them they say it's fine but was surprised for a whopping R60 to do it. Why? I get that for labour it's R60 still don't know why it's that expensive for something that take less than 10min. I would really appreciate it if Vodacom either on the sim card package or on the website atleast warn people that they will pay a fee doing it on store. R60 isn't small money especially sincd it's something easy to do and needs to be communicated accordingly. Please Vodacom take note I can't imagine how many people especially older people gets caught in that act and in order to avoid getting embarrassed they pay which almost happened to my mother if I wasn't there and stopped her and did the sim swap inside the car on our way home. Communicate properly. I doubt Vodacom even see this or gives a rats ass atleast let this warn other people about this

Do not see the need for them to print/make it clear on the sim/website etc. I know my local vodacom4u store have basic (and quite low) fees for some services and never had an issue with it as it is clear what they charge, with the fees printed out there somewhere and I understand it - they are constantly busy with people requesting assistance with mundane things like loading airtime.

So what youre saying is,is that its fine to drive all the way to a vodacom store and only find out in store that youre gonna pay extra and R60 isnt low lmao. Clear how exactly finding out only inside? I mean adding a extra sentence on the package or website example: "Swim swap in store may have additional fees" wont harm anyone. Just to get it out there and prepare people to pay. Does vodacom has an extra website that states this that im not aware with? Also what about those in rural areas that doesnt have an vodacom store nearby and not handy with this stuff. Dont you think it would be nice for them to know this hidden fee?

Yes. That is what I am saying. No one made you drive all the way to the store. The service provider is under no obligation to provide you with the costs before you go to the store. And yes, R60 is low. The other in-store fees I saw were also all borderline reasonable. Would I want anyone I know to use the service being offered there? No. I'd rather help myself - within reason.

If a service provider give you the free avenue, I see no need to them to explicitly inform you of the possible fees should you go any other route. Would be a waste in any case, as people will still complain, even if they print it on a 6 story banner. The other routes should rather inform you of the fees, and you are then welcome to decline the service at that point in time.

Rural should simply follow the instructions that come with the sim or phone the free helpline that will assist them with the process, for free*, if you have already bought the sim. It is indeed printed on the literature. Do not see what is the problem here.

I sat in that rural store before, and saw the people lining up for mundane things, and the clerk cannot 'help' everyone with their whatsapp or other related issues for free.

*Within reason. Even the helpline will block you if you call them too much - should they also disclose this? Nope

@ld13 - We concur with explanation accordingly the days of this Forum and members going as far as MyAdsl days inclusive of a time when VodacomData and Jannie were active in this forum by their contribution of technical discussions and assistance to OP's etc.

Edit: This was only a GENERAL OBSERVATION of the Vodacom Tread with the added problem people do not understand due process in resolving issues with corporations in the main and then turn to forums/Facebook/Hello Peter etc.

These days this forum has turned into OP's who seem to have no sense and meaning of Caveat Emptor (Let the buyer beware) combined with purchasing Vodacom products by the proper assessment of their needs.

This results in first calling of derogatory names/titles of first posting clearly indicating the stupidity displayed, combined with no clue around how to resolve their issues as a result of their poor choices BEFORE purchasing items. We even have an OP who imagines she is the Queen (Kween) of forums.

They often do not see that the "ice blocks" as all differing one from all the networks, in fact it is ALL "Smoke and mirrors" games in advertising.

We now expect a lot of heat after posting this (My Heat Shield raised).

I do not understand why you're so defensive there is no smoke. There is no poor choices made just lack of information. There is no derogatory names or titles anywhere here if this about me saying "ratass" then ima need you to relax and go outside . Trying to act like a victim for some particular reason with a heat shield when nobody brought heat in the first place. Anyways

The other guy already explained why vodacom doesn't care to be as detailed as possible because they already assume that people would complain. Thats fine its just how the company works i suppose.

Regarding your first point you said its already been explained so where is it? Why not pinned. I hope you don't mean people should go back 5+ years of forums to find their answers? Eitherway I got the answer that I should be aware of going in store that I would pay for anything that would require the employees to use their hands and voices. No need to cry and raise your heat shields lmao. were done here.bye

I'm pretty sure I wasn't charged a cent for this, by the one close to me (walking distance) but it was some years ago - well before Covid, probably 2 or 3 years before.

They have to keep raking in those billions, somehow, so every Rand for sundry charges helps their "cause".

Now that makes sense because I swore they didn't charge in store at all

That is strange, I was always charged R20, yours seems excessive compared to what I was charged.

The last time I did a Sim swop at Vodacom was early this year, around February and it was R20.

I was charged much more than that, but for a contract sim. Cannot recall the exact amount.

So it's different for everyone depending on the Vodacom store. Eish

You have other self help options as you mentioned. If you choose to go to a store, like banks do too, there might be additional fees charged.
The fees could also be to encourage you to use digital services rather than visit the store (it worked).

As long as there is lower cost/free options available, I don't mind if they charge instore.
