I got a call from Vodacom as I usually do once or twice a week telling me they have great offers. I tell them every time not interested, please take me off of your cal list.

Yesterday I get a call about an upgrade I am eligible for since November, but this time instead of just saying a polite no thanks, I told the lady that I'm leaving Vodacom when my contract expires in April because of Vodacom's pathetic stance on eSim.

So today I get a call from Vodacom just to confirm and go over the upgrade I 'agreed' to yesterday???

Totally gobsmacked. I guess the lady who 'upgraded' me gets commission and thought 'fsck him'. So next time it's back to a polite no thanks but heads up anyway.

Oh, and if anyone from Vodacom is reading, I'm generally very happy with you for all these years, but I am taking my family contracts worth about R2,5k a month away from you one by one as they expire because of no eSim offering

They don’t offer it on phones. Only watches.
Formally yes, but myself and lots of others have successfully managed to make it work on a phone. Can’t speak for Android phones, but definitely on iPhones

I had it working on my phone when they first introduced it for the watch, but it is a workaround and notifications weren't working and and and. Why should we have to make a workaround?

No, I simply cannot continue to support Vodacom and give them my money every month when they don't give two schits for me and my needs. So, it's a free market, I will go to someone else who does have it.

I do not have any issues luckily, all I did was request the service to be activated on one of my lines, got the system generated QR code via email, scanned it and everything was done, did not have to enter any settings myself. Works perfectly, I receive notifications etc, in fact the physical sim is sometimes not even on the air but everything still works perfectly.

I do agree that Vodacom is too big and does not care for customers at all, you’re just a number (pun intended!)

I’ve been with them for nearly 25 years, 20 years on my current contract/number alone, and countless bad customer service experiences over these years. Wanted to leave them so many times, but I’m just too lazy to go to the effort, and then I read horror stories of other operators too so I just keep things as they are. Better the devil you know!

But I do understand and appreciate your frustration.

The scummiest part of this is that even if you did say upgrade you never ever see this contract you agreed to…and when you have some issue with it you’ll never get it out of them so it’s impossible to fight them on it.

Hence why I’m on prepaid and will never use contracts again.
