Vodacom to start charging extra for email?

I received the following sms from Vodacom this morning:

Hi, Your [email protected] email account will be automatically migrated to a new premium service on 31 March 2022, and will cost R29pm. Reply 1 to Accept or 2 to Decline, to 31118. Click here for more info: http://voda.com/vodacom-email. T&Cs apply. Further together

Does anyone know what this is about. Is this an upgraded email, and will i keep my current email plan if I decline? I am not in the mood to phone VC to try and find out.

Thanks

After 12 years with a free email they are trying to control us and make everything cost money. The more they can take the better. Remember who is behind vodacom's little logo....It's a 6...look closely....that is all that is happening. Getting people depending on them and keep them enslaved with debt.

I have read it and read it, My complaint is if you do not send the 2 to 31118 you are automatically charged the R29. According to the law Vodacom can't sign you automatically up/charge you for something that you did not subscribe to. I have spoken to a few people with Vodacom email and some of them did not even received the warning SMS, so they will automatically pay the R29. Also what proof is there they have received the 2. I have send it after trying numerous times, but there is no acknowledgement.

@Grumpy Old Man - Please continue with your written enquiry - My info indicates:-
As of 2022/03/31 ALL Free 3G Vodamail will be closed and migrated 5G Premium at R29 per month fee. All holders of FREE Vodamail were sent SMS to inform and offer the option to migrate if they wish. This is not a unilateral move as stated by some..!
A few people on my contact list with Vodacom emails have not received the SMS and were informed by Vodacom when they enquire that they will be automatically charged the R29 if they do not send the 2 to 31118

I would love to know what this new premium service is. Is is just a bigger mailbox, or are there real advantages to using this service?

Never mind. I found the answer. The mailbox size is 5gb instead of 3, and you can send to 50 recipients at a time I instead of the current 25. Hardly worth extra R29 for a service that has always been oncluded in our contracts. It all smell like BS to me...

@Red Plumstead - Well obviosly if any SIM used in a router coupled to Vodamail, the user will not clear/read any SMS messages.
The media like Twitter etc will not state this, they rather spread false news- Bull Sugar and Ice Tea.
As previously stated to @Grumpy Old Man use the written system to put your views and comfirmation of receipt of your choice to Vodacom...!

But they have Wi-Fi calling which is one reason I want to port from MTN to Vodacom.

Been with MTN for 20 years but they couldn't string together a Wi-Fi calling service properly, which is gold for someone who travels a lot.

The Only issue..coming from someone that used to be on Vodacom for 16 years is that their network is trash compared to MTN.

If you send just the number 2 to 666 it actually sends back confirmation that the service won't be charged. Thanks Karen!

Written confirmation from Vodacom is that 2 to 31118 is the only valid decline. They want proof from your phone number.

Do you know if one can keep the 3GB option and continue free or will the free option fall away completely?

Also interesting to know if you elect not to continue, will they recycle your email address as this will mean someone else will receive all emails of yours you did not manage to change to your new email address...

Also got the sms on 1 sim and not others - all using vodamail...

I think it's pretty clear - pay for the premium service or your email service will be discontinued. I doubt they'll prevent recycling of addresses not migrated.
