Possibly something on your phone is checking for updates ?
Mobile Broadband uses a lot more data for its pings and such because it needs to access the Internet and reach servers through ARP proxies. Which means it have to send out twice the amount of roundtrips than you will do with ASDL for example
Please back up your ridiculous statements with facts. Anyone with a HSPA+ network is either already on (or close to) a full IP network.
