The following phones is for free on Vodacom Topup 315. These one are the few that I am interested in.

Blackberry 8520 - according to gsmarena its not very good, a budget Blackberry.
HTC Magic and Tattoo - I really like the look of these phones. They any good?
Nokia E63 and E71 - The E71 looks quite cool
Sony Ericsson C902, C902 and X1. I don't need a cybershot, and the X1 is kinda old?

Any comments about the above mentioned phones would be awesome.

Loving every second of my E71.

Nothing wrong with the Blackberry, it's just the basic model so no bells and whistles.

E71 is nearly two years old now (although it is good). First available Juneish 2008. Rather hold out for an E72 if you are keen for that route.

I'm on topup 315s. Also faced with similar choices. The Magic seems to be the best in that category although Tattoo is newer. The Magic's almost got all that the HTC Hero has bar 5mp and 3.5 plug. I can live without that. I'm waiting to see if Leaf rolls out the Android 2 upgrade. I think that will solve any issues that I need without rooting. I'm also looking at SE Satio although payin is steep and waiting on pricing for the nokia X6.

X1 also runs winmo iirc. Lots of people dont mind it, but it's a turn off for a couple of others. I'll be upgrading to topup 315 at the end of the month and at the moment I think the magic is the best deal. Unless you want to wait a month or two and likely pay your ass off for an X10, which looks absolutely amazing.

I also can't decide what to get, top up 315s

E72 - R1049 pay in
Aino - R599 pay in
Satio - R1609 pay in
Curve 8250 - R500voucher
Curve 8900 - R999 pay in
Bold 9000 - R2099 pay in
Bold 9700 - R2099 pay in
TP2 - R3599 pay in

The Curve's dont have 3G, which can be a bit of a bummer. The E72 is solid, but a little boring. Satio has some nice features, but the touch screen is resistive and Symbian is still a little iffy on touch only devices. The Bold's are great if you like blackBerry's, Touch Pro 2 isnt bad either if you dont mind WinMo. It really depends what you're looking for - a business phone will be well served by a Bold, the E72 or the Touch Pro, Satio is more of a multimedia phone and the Anio's selling point seems to be it's ability to link with a PS3. Are those the only phones you're considering? The W995 has some good looking specs and the HTC android phones are very popular.

Nope, just what I had a look at so far. Still want to check out the HTC Androids. Hope the pay ins aren't rediculous like the TP2.

Paying on the Hero is about 2k last I checked, 500 on the magic and the Tattoo is free. Like I said earlier, the magic is probably the best value for money there - the tattoo has a smaller screen, so less apps and not as easy to use. The Hero and the Magic run the same hardware (except for one or two small changes), the main difference is the SenseUI on the Hero, but the Magic should be getting an update to enable SenseUI in the next few weeks, in which case it will be a Hero for all intents and purposes.

got my Magic for Free on Topup315. Brilliant phone, battery life a bit short though.

Try turning off your Data connection when you're not using it, since that's supposedly a pretty big drain on the battery.

I went in yesterday to check out the magic and hero prices...

magic R749 pay in
hero R2199 pay in

on topup 315s
