Vodacom Upgrade Time Limit

So I have an upgrade due next month and wanted an iPhone but it's the same thing for the last 2 years so want to wait for the 8. My question is can I wait till October next year or is there some time limit on when you have to renew your contract?

No. You dont ever have to upgrade if you dont want to. It is up to you when you want to upgrade.

Aren't there additional monthly costs when you're in an 'expired contract'? I rememebr a few years ago, my contract expired and I saw my bill started increasing. When I questioned it, I was told that when the contract expires, previously free things like airtime/SMS/data gets charged for??
