I've just moved to a new place and I'm having some weird issues with dropped calls. All the generic threads seem to be about data issues so here is my new thread about my voice issue. :D

The issue seems to be very specific to the area where my house is (Wilgeheuwel). Use my phone at work and many other locations and haven't had this issue.

It doesn't seem like a signal strength issue but rather an issue with the BTS or the transmission. The call is fine for (sometimes) many minutes with no breaking or stuttering. Then the call just goes silent, a bit of "hello? hello?" from either side, then the voice stream seems to recover for about 2-3 seconds and then the phone drops the call.

Now it would be handy if we could blame my handset but my wife is having exactly the same issue with calls on her phone since we moved in here. I have my phone set on GSM-only to save battery, the wife's phone is on GSM/WCDMA mode so I don't think that its a 3G issue directly.

I'm a little loathed to phone and report it to the call center cause A) I probably won't complete the call and B) all my careful testing and diagnostics will not be recorded or used... :p

Is their any way to send this kind of info directly to the RAN engineers to look at and try and fix?

Could be congestion on the tower I guess. But no...to my knowledge you cant log the call directly to network. You have to log the call with the call centre and from there the call gets routed to the network guys.

Should you not want to call them you can send a mail instead to [email protected]. Be sure to include the below info for proper handling of the call.

CELL NUMBER/S AFFECTED:
CONTACT PERSON:
EXACT PHYSICAL ADDRESS:
ALTERNATIVE CONTACT NUMBER:
DETAILED EXPLANATION OF PROBLEM EXPERIENCED:
HOW LONG PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING:
MAKE MODEL OF HANDSET:

Be sure to include in the description that your phone is already on 2G only and your wife is on dual mode so this is not the cause of the problem. Also mention that your wife has the same problem so it is not a issue with your phone.

Once you have sent the mail you will get a ref number almost immediately....then within 24 - 48 working hours you will receive another one on your phone with the new ref number that was assigned when logged to network. Hang on to this.

omw am I happy to see somone to back me up on this.

go read my thread, I am in Wilgeheuwel too! Calls drop after few seconds :( It seems to get worse and worse :( I have data problems too.

good luck with logging a call. I have 4 ref numbers, and the only feedback I got is that they are working on the network issue :(
