I'm at the point to upgrade, so I did a bit of an investigation regarding Vodacom's contracts for the Iphone 5s contracts. I have a 32GB Iphone 4s, so I wouldn't mind have an equivalent. My current cost of the contract is plus minus R620.

Vodacom is running a special on their Iphone 5S 32GB. For the Iphone 5s, on the Smart L (250minutes, 500MB, ignore the SMSes), + you get another 500MB, it is, wait for it....R799. Yes, the same contract I have now, is R180 more expensive. Exchange rate, etc. can be used as an excuse, but it doesn't explain MTN.

If you go for the closest MTN Iphone 5S 32GB package, it consists of 200minutes, 300MB, at R619. If you had a bolton of 1GB @ R89, it works out at R708, oushing up the data to 1.3GB

Yes, ladies and gents. You can built a MTN package, with more data (which works great as I use Skype and FaceTime) for nearly R100 cheaper than Vodacom. No wonder Vodacom is pushing free data, because their package is over priced. :wtf:

I haven't look at Cell C or Telkom (they are cheaper generally), but after my Cell C fiasco (yes, guys, number porting isn't that difficult), they are not currently an option.

/Rant over

300MB is just stupid to use on an iPhone, you need 1GB a month.
Is 1GB R89 on MTN?

To my understanding, if you take out a new 24 month contract, you can get 1GB / R89, this is according to the MTN Yellow Deals PDF

T&Cs of course:

MTN 500MB, 1GB, 2GB Contract Packages: Offer valid until 31 May 2014. Pricing only applicable to 24-month contracts. Offer open to new MTN customers and MTN
customers migrating or upgrading to these price plans. Customers already on these price plans will not receive the above pricing. See www.mtn.co.za for full Terms and
Conditions.

That's the deal I took. You get 300mb + 150mb (for five days). I added the 1G at R89 the day I got it.
