From R599 to R1.37 per GB

Vodacom was the first mobile operator to launch 3G mobile broadband services in South Africa, introducing the technology in December 2004.

When the company launched 3G, it offered a 1GB data package with a portable modem for R599 per month.

Some price drop.

Still ranked 149th most expensive in 2023

I paid R5.00 for 1GB (valid for that day) and the R5.00 was there via Vodabucks that I have no idea how it works

If Vodacom was this cheap, why did all my family and friends move to Telkom????

2nd most expensive data network was R89 per 1gb and R149 for 2gb. Ridiculously overpriced!!!

To top all off, no proper data speeds. Telkom was x5 faster. Never got more than 4mbps for a premium fee. Mtn guys had 20-50mbps connection.

Telkom was 10-20mbps, but R99 for 7.5gb is and was a dream come true

Pity they did not anticipate anything past that and got overtaken by other networks with everything. It you want a good data deal it's Telkom or MTN and if you want a good prepaid deal it's Telkom or Cell C. It seems Vodacom still wants to perpetuate the idea that data is a scarce commodity when it was shown early on that is a lie.

In 2014 1GB cost R89, now on the vodacom app in 2024 1.2GB costs R89. Not much difference after 10 years...
We are waiting for the analogue signal to be turned off. Maybe our ancestors will witness it.

What happened to the promises of the spectrum auction? We kept being told it needs to happen for data costs to come down. Just as soon as it was set networks started ducking and diving over how it won't result in immediate reductions and even Vodacom's promise of a 50% reduction is yet to materialise.

I blame the analogue signal.
