Hi all:)

Prepaid data bundles have finally arrived after an eon of waiting:p But, with the new prepaid data bundle pricing comes further questions regarding the exorbitant pricing on the out-of-bundle-rate.

Currently the most expensive bundle in per megabyte terms is the 500MB data bundle for R189. This effectively works out to R0.38/MB. The out-of-bundle rate still remains unchanged at R2/MB. This is essentially an increase of more than 500% from bundled to out-of-bundle rates. How can this costing be justified?:confused:
 
2gig bundle is worth it... at R389 vs the 1gig bundle wich is R289.

Agreed, I use a total of around 8mb on my VC phone in a month - for e-mail and nokia maps. I don't use the internet at all due to the cost involved :( . This does not justify even buying a R20 bundle. When I am away from home I use my spare phone with a Virgin sim card for internet on the laptop. I have to cart this phone around as well then - would be nice to just use the one phone when away from home.
The other option is to port my main mobile no to Virgin but I like the upgrades on Vodacom every 2 years (Lets start another thread: Mobile upgrades every 12 months :D )

Only if you use VC as your primary Internet access provider - bundles for add hoc use is not an option as you invariably end up paying more for access due to unused data at the end of the month.

Exactly. You receive the benefit of excellent pricing per megebyte if you use your entire bundle.
 
I am sharing a 500 MB bundle with a friend by using his 2nd simcard (datasim). I am paying R100 for 250 MB effectively. Even if I use only 150 MB, it is still a good price and the speed and reliability compared to VM is worth it.

If we need more, we can always get 2 GB and pay R195 each for 1 GB.

Interesting idea that:) But you have to have a reliable tag-team for this to work. If out-of-bundle rates were reduced you wouldn't have to go through the trouble:rolleyes:

Absolutely, my friend is basically taking the risk as the bundle is on his contract. But he trusts me. I log each byte with bandwidth meter pro and I can monitor the remaining bytes on the bundle myself.
