Ok, so I am tired of fighting with the fscking operators about airtime going missing..

I am a Proud owner of a Sony Erricson W995, which has built in WIFI.
I have adsl at home but unfortunately my W995 can't pick up the signal of my adsl wifi router in my room, what I want to do is lay cat5 to my room and put up a WIFI Access Point.

Once I have the AP up and running I would be able to access all web based applications easily and quickly.

Problem is that I hear WIFI drains the battery quite fast on my handset. So I thought out a better plan. I know it is possible to use a bluetooth connection on your pc to share the adsl Ethernet connection back to your handset.

I wonder what will drain the electricity most, Blueteeth or Wifi?

Any advice is appreciated
Cheers

No, this bluetooth business is a schlepp. Stick to wifi, it'll be less painful.

Yes, all the SEs seem to have wifi range issues. My sisters phone has 1/2 the range of a laptop.

If the range isn't that far off: Get a laptop, download netstumbler & try different channels. I've had good luck w/ channel 13 since most US equipment is blocked on that. That could give you a few more meters range. Changing from WPA -> WEP might also help a bit, but its a security risk.

Bluetooth will also drain the battery quite a bit. For the battery issue, I'd recommend disabling 3G/UMTS...it chows battery like nothing else.

In your situation I'd just live with the wifi chowing battery. Its a worthwhile tradeoff. Besides, surely you have a chrager in your room.

Thank you it's good to hear a second opinion :)

Also, what do you think are the rists involved when I am sleeping next to a wifi router at night? xD

Should I use POE or Normal one which I can turn off at night?

You'll need to run it in normal mode, not PPPoE/bridged.

Risks. Nobody knows, but I reckon its fine.

Oh, and I still don't get what this thread has to do with voda stealing airtime.

they stealing my airtime.. that is why I want to use WIFI instead of WASTING MY MONEY ON AIRTIME ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG

I can get 1000mb for R19 adsl or i can get 7mb (3mb stolen) from Vodacon for the same price..

LOL crazy when u look at it like this maaaan

By the way, I am using router in Bridged mode, what do?

Stealing: the act of taking something from someone unlawfully

You put the details into the router config page instead of under the windows connection.

cool story bro!!
