bought Vodafone and 1G data - tried 3 areas in Pta - Rietfontein, Suiderberg and Brooklyn. pathetic. Equally pathetic is the service - is this accepted in this country or am I the only one that expects to receive something that works as promoted- hardly ever gets anything more than GPRS and it is slower than dial up. Can someone on this forum recommend something that works? I have treid asking for my money back several times but that apparently requires an act of god to get money back for being sold garbage. so slow (if it works that the web pages cannot load and I have tired 3 different laptops just to make sure it is not at my end.

No way you should have proper HSDPA there... Have you tried forcing the program to only use 3G? Maybe that will help. On my build in dell studio I have no problem with the speed. The only problem you should get is that the line gets dropped frequently via Vodacom broadband.

logged about 5 calls with 082155- asked them to escalate to ATG. Got some cheerful SMS back that my connectivity issues are fixed - without checking with me. All very polite and NICE but apparently not interested/ don't care/whatever .tried 3G only, and all the other options. Only get EDGE. Watching paint dry while loading a page. Perhaps I should try sitting on a roof? Mohammed from Menlo Vodash** tried it in his store - no connection there either - swapped it for the 'store' dongle - got more connections but still only EDGE - I trade US stocks - forget it to get online from 4pm - browser pages do not even load. Can anyone recommend alternatives? Just moved back from the US and I am sure SA can do better than this stuff. Is it device related or just an over subscribed network that is more down than up?

Obviously there are alternatives, MTN and Telkodemonopolies also have HSPA networks [although only Vodacom and MTN have pre-paid, i.e. Telkodemonopolies does not - yet].

There is also iBurst, and there is CDMA2000 [+- EVDO] from Neotel, and if you're after a non-wireless solution then there is Telkodemonopolies' "Fast DSL" at a whopping 384kbits/s.

By Menlo do you mean Menlyn Park in Pretoria? I am almost sure there would be 3G coverage there. VodacomData, are you aware of any coverage/down BTS in that area?

Just to clarify, Telkom's ADSL options are:
Code:
DSL Up to 384kbps
Down stream: min 256kbps; max 384kbps
Up stream: min 64kbps; max 128kbps

DSL Up to 512kbps
Down stream: min 416kbps; max 512kbps
Up stream: min 192kbps; max 256kbps

DSL Up to 1024 (4Mbps trial)
Down stream: min 640kbps; max 1024kbps (4096kbps during the trial)
Up stream: min 256kbps; max 384kbps

After using Vodacom 3G for more than two years, I am now on Telkom's slowest option (384kbps). And yes, it is slower. But it works, each time, every time, all the time. Downloading of large files does take longer, but overall, the ADSL feels more responsive, more deterministic, more robust. It just works. I have not tried going to a faster ADSL (no need), so I cannot comment on that.

the day i get proper 3G on vodacom the Borg will arrive. its rubbish to put it mildly.

oh god please no....you guys moaning and groaning individually is bad enough....can you imagine once you are assimilated and moaning as a collective? That day I de-activate my profile on here and hit the road!!!! :D

Have you guys tried the poynting antenna's perhaps?
