No, everyone gets that. That's an attempt by them to prevent you using a competitor's SIM.

There are other ways to deal with it.
  • You can change the firmware (as above).
  • You can block the software from loading, then use your own dashboard software.
  • You can load software onto your PC and run that as soon as you connect the modem and hope it doesn't clash with VMC auto-running from the device.

so i downloaded the firmware from mtn and the vmc still dnt work..gettng the huawei client installed fromt he huawei website now :P,will post an update soon ..

well i did a firmware upgrade and Gt Mobile Connect from hauwei and alls good now so yeh thanks again

Thanks for the thread Raven69 - I might be facing the same hinderness soon: using MTN SIM in Vodafone modem. Since you have solved the puzzle, I don't have to ;-)

Does using a MTN dash with a MTN sim in the E220 present any advantages above some of the generic software suggested?

Is there some clever way of obtaining it from MTN? :)

The MTN dashboard will come with a pre-defined profile but apart from that it's just cosmetic really! Many people (myself included) do not like branding, I actually switch between MTN and Vodacom so an unbranded dashboard suits me - Trying to explain to my wife that I'm connect via MTN with a Vodafone dashboard was not worth thinking about!! Some dashboards have a default profile that can not be deleted and so each time you connect you are forced to manually switch to your alternative profile if it differers from the default. I'm not so sure if it's the branding that upsets me or the horrid colours some networks choose!

I actually use MDMA (it's a sticky in the MTN section) more often that not as it's quick and convenient plus it allows you to sent USSD commands (i.e. *141# for balance etc.) but it does not have SMS facility. I usually only receive "please call me" messages from people who have completely lost the ability to type a number correctly or messages that tell me I can make 60 minutes of free calls at 2am in the morning! So SMS facility is not an issue!!
