Vodafone H500S router cable length problem

Hi everyone

I have the H500S Vodafone router that was supplied by Vodacom with our fibre installation. Now the cable running from the converter to the router is +-1.5m. If I run a longer cable to the router, the router doesn't work (like it's on, but no Internet service). Now I'm fine to leave the router where it is with the 1.5m setup.
From the router I try to run a 20m cat5e cable to our room, but I also get no Internet connection. I can use up to 10m from the router to my pc, but anything longer than 10m doesn't seem to work. I tried different cables, have them tested and even made my own cables, but I can only get up to 10m to work. I know I should get up to 100m to work on 100mb line, but I'm not getting this with my setup..

The only thing I didn't try yet was Cat 6 shielded cable, since I battle to get the shielded type. The one with the metal connectors.

Will a different router do better than the H500S regarding the cable distance? I really need to sort this out.

We see a lot of inconsistencies like this when people use poor quality cable, faulty / old crimpers, and often people not using the TIA standard for colour code and just make up their own. Not saying any of that applies to you, but have seen it many times where short cables work and anything over 10 to 20M do not
 
In case somebody reads this and didnt get the TIA reference you have to follow the colour guide line

Yes, did follow the TIA standard. Matrix computers also supplied me with 2 cables 20m each, but it also didn't work. I doubt it's a cable problem since I tried 8 different cables. All different brands and various lengths between 12m and 30m, but only lengths under 10m seems to work.

Obviously you tried different ports on the unit so that would rule that out. Have never had a switch do that only ever cable so sorry no idea. Normal ethernet switch is typically an on off situation, not what you describe, and that is really only ever cable.
 
Whats the converter model nr?

Its probably built./configured for a short run and low power.

Pop a repeater on the shortest lead then try the longer run.

They're cheap as well, no need for a fancy one

Ya, this is very frustrating for me. I've tried and done a lot to get it working, but can't get the distance solved. Other thing I was thinking. What if the termination caps are too small (capacitance wise) to do the job. Looking at pictures on the web, they look very small.
 
About 20m radius inside, taking walls and obstacles in account.

I was told to stay away from repeaters or wifi extenders (those that plug into the 220 socket).
