vodafone r201 portable wifi router

is this device network locked ?

thanx, which means I can use it with any service providers sim. vodacom- please send your unknowledgable sales staff for immediate training

Good day,

I was at the vodashop a few min ago and the lady assured me that this device is network locked. I asked her if she is sure and it did not seem as though she was.@hurly can you please confirm that this device worked when you purchased it?

Thank you

I too would like to know this, as i have spoken to 2 vodashops and both say the R201 can only be used with a vodacom sim card, they also say that their modems can only be used with a vodacom sim too, so i am not sure whats up with that. i thought they were not allowed to network lock any devices?

I have purchase this router over the weekend at incredible connection for R799. I have tried my 8ta 10gig sim and it works like a charm. Really cool device. So it is not network locked. They also told me it is locked. When I asked if they were sure the answer was "mmmm??". The sales guys don't have a clue.

Network locking is illegal in SA and, as crooked as the networks here are, this seems to be one regulation they readily abide by.

I have a Vodacom-branded one. I use my 8ta sim in it. No problem.
The mobile broadband app says it doesn't work as there is no known network detected, but it works just fine in both USB and WLAN modes.

Any indications on the battery life and wifi range of this device?

EDIT: Review here

Battery life around 3-4 hours.

Wifi range I haven't tested, as I only use it when i'm away from home for my ipad/iphone

What speed is it? I can't see anything on the review :/

Also - does it have an ethernet port?

I got mine for few months now and after the last firmware upgrade that I did, its now dlna certified, I noticed that it picks up as a media server on my ps3.
Great device, I paid like R1800 for it at the time...

Vodafone R201 Router help

I have had the above router for about 5 months now with zero problems . I use it at home for mine and the missus' laptops as well as my Ipad . My question is ? When I leave the router on all day , whilst at work and come home , switch on the laptop which automatically connects to the router . The problem is , is that the router is not always connected to the net . This means that you have to restart the router , wait about 4 minutes and then only can you go online . Admittedly some days when I get home , its still connected and you can browse pretty much straight away .
Is there a setting which you can change ? I have tried looking at the routers settings , and everything is set to automatically connect . Maybe I am missing something .
