I have a Blackberry 8310 which came with the Vodafone SatNav software. I recently upgraded the firmware without backing up the software. The new firmware doesn’t have this software. Anyway I can recover / download it?

thanks. do i need to navigate to the site from my bb?

if i use a prepaid card and get the blackberry service for a month (R59), will i be able to use this? will i have to load a data bundle?

How old is this phone and where did you get it from? If it is less than 2 years old and supplied by Vodacom then yes, you will be able to use it and no, you wont need a data bundle. Vodafone SatNav uses BIS to download the maps as you drive.

cool. stupid question - what is the vodafone site to register the phone?

have they always charged to use the navigation?

I am not following. What do you mean?

i keep on getting an error that says Your license has expired.. Phoned 155 and it seems that it may be or may not be the case (depending on who you talk to there) that after two years the sat nav is no longer free of charge. but then another consultant informed me that if you have the BIS it should be available for use.

I then also tried to get one of those R35 for 1 month subs. But I still get the same error despite Vodacom having deducted R35 from my account. They are currently looking into what shenanigins have gone on.

Yes, the Vodafone SatNav is only provided to you with your BIS for two years on a handset. After the two years have passed, then you will have to purchase a new license for it.

Customers can download the Sat Nav software by sending the word ‘SAT NAV’ to 31116 (free SMS). A link will be sent back to the customer to download the application free of charge for a 30 day trial period. Thereafter, a once-off license cost will be charged, and customers can choose between usage for a month, 12 months or 24 months.

Free 30-day trial license Customers will be able to make use of a 30-day free trial license from the date of downloading the application to their GPS-enabled cellphone. Customers will receive two notifications before the 30-day trial ends, notifying them that the trial is coming to an end, and prompting them to opt-in to the service. Once the customer’s 30-day trial period has expired, they will have the option to extend usage by paying a once-off license fee (for 12 month or 24 month usage) for the Sat Nav service.
Customers may use one of the following options to purchase a Vodafone Sat Nav license (costs listed in question 4): Click on the link in the notification SMS (informing the customer of the free trial expiration); Go to Vodafone Live! (insert URL) on your cellphone and click on ‘Satellite Navigation’; Call Vodacom’s Customer Contact Centre on 082 155, free from a Vodacom cellphone; or Contact their Service Provider.

Did you try and use the SatNav that was already on the phone? You might have to remove that and reinstall it using the download link that was provided in the SMS.

i've tried version 4.07... which comes from the vdc link above. i've tried the 4.57... version which comes with the link you receive when you sms. both tell me about the licence. yet R35 has been deducted from my account after having clicked on subscribe in vodafone live.

edit: i've also tried to unistall and reinstall and the issue persists.

That is very odd. But you said you have logged it with 082155?

If you are really struggling though you can also try garmap for blackberry. They give you a 30 day trial also. I actually have the trial on my 8310 and it works pretty decent.

WHEN ARE WE GETTING GOOGLE NAV FOR BLACKBERRY DAMMIT!? :-)
