Vodafone VF845 network locked

Well, that really sux. Was thinking of buying one on prepaid & using it on Cell C. (HSDPA 900 / 2100) http://www.gsmarena.com/vodafone_845-3212.php
I thought they weren't allowed to. What makes you think that it is network locked?
Do you have the phone or did someone tell you this? Vodacom @ N1 City told me its not & Game couldn't confirm either.

it's a sweet deal, game R999. WiFi, bluetooth, 3.2MP autofocus camera, 7.2 hsdpa, android 2.1. predictive text which makes my nokia feel like a typewriter.
put in a 8ta card, finds the carrier, but it won't connect. Vodafone software only has a choice of vodacom networks. It seems the custom android has to use vodafone software to tether the phone. My vodacom signal sucks, so i must be able to connect to mtn or 8ta.
do you think vodacare will unlock it (do you think they can)? If so, bye bye nokia.

So your problem is only with tethering (i.e. using it as a modem on your PC)?

The phone is not network locked but I believe you should seek network support. Root the phone.

Win 7 allows control/connect but the connection is unsuccessful. Connecting through the vodafone software on the pc gives the same result. I haven't got round to trying out gmail, web.... yet, because my preference is to use the pc
Root the phone? I am new to android, could you please explain this or give me a link.

If you have android 2.1,hmm why you using vodafone software? I use pdanet ,google it and download it to your pc it will do the rest on ur phone when you connect,thou let me tell you get the speedtest app test your max speed on the phone than see what ul get,root your phone after the 2 year so if software gives you problems they wouldnt turn around and blame you for it.
