I have a few Vodaphone branded 3G pcmcia cards from Vodacom.
I'd like to switch over to Telkom 3G. Will the telkom SIMs work in the vodaphone/vodacom 3G cards or are the 3G cards network locked?

Thanks.

I can not see any reason why not.

Mine is working on one of the old VC pcmcia cards.

Please keep us updated... lots of folks wanting to know the same thing!

Interesting, I have a Fujitsu Siemens Notebook which has an embedded 3G / HSDPA adaptor, with a door for simcard access at the bottom of the Notebook.

I just pop my simcard into the slot and activate the adaptor via the hardware button just below my screen.

Currently using a VC simcard which is GSM.

Will the new Telkom 3G simcard work in this scenario too?

Considering the pricing, it may be a worthwhile move.

The Notebook is not really used for mobility these days as my BlackBerry has superceded its use, mostly email.

AFAIK the device need to be unlocked first, or not be locked in to a particular network.

Remember the days when cellphones were locked to a particular network?

The more people start to leave VC/MTN for Telkom/CellC, the better... nothing like giving a fat cat a good scare especially wrt diminishing profit margins :D

Telkom did the right thing by using existing 3G hardware - otherwise you'd need to purchase new devices.

Hi,
i have novtel mc950D HSDPA modem which is unlocked for all networks. Will this work with telkom sim?

Huawei E270

Hello. Will the E270 card work with the Telkom 3G sims? When I insert the E270 the mtn fastlink software
automatically starts. I was under the impression MTN does not lock devices.

I created another profile using internet as APN, *99# as the dialup number with no username and password.
It detects the card, ask for a pin but no network is found. Any ideas please?

Install the Mobile Partner software?

The mobile partner software seems to only work for the E220 card. I downloaded the software but it does not detect the E270 card. Anybody have the mobile partner software that I could download for the E270?

Thanks

Try the following:

APN (must be static): internet
Access number: *99#
User name and password blank
Under advanced. IP settings, DNS and WINS must be dynamic
Authentication: CHAP

Hope this help

Interestingly - vodafone's software pops up when I insert my telkom e220 router.

So I have to close vodafone's stuff before the telkom mobile partner software will load.

And, no, it won't work with vodafone's software when you've got a telkom sim installed.
