Hi all

I've heard a rumor that selling a car 'voetstoots' will be banned as of next year? Anybody else hear about this? Or is this just pertaining to dealers and NOT private sales. I mean, imagine trying to sell an old car if you can't sell it as 'voetstoots'!? I REALLY hope this is just a rumor!

I understand that many shady dealers make misuse of the 'voetstoots' when selling old bangers that were tarted up just so they can be sold.

Cheerz!

Prob part of the new consumer protection act.

You can still sell it voetsoots, provided you explained the problems to the client in detail I suppose. If the client knows exatcly what he is buying then I'm sure he can't hold you accountable.

I'm no lawyer but I remember watching a program a few years ago about Voetstoots & car dealers. From what I remember is that you still need to disclose any know issues with the car when selling. A case law example was a guy that bought the car voetstoots and the dealer did not inform him of any defects. The engine seized a month later and it was determined the cause was known by the dealer at the time of sale. The consumer one.

And the dealer minus one! ;) :p

Yes under the new CPA dealers cannot just sell a car voetstoets.

It probably doesn't include private sales, but I would be very careful if trying to sell an old car privately as well. The CPA puts the power very firmly in the hands of the consumer which is a good thing in the long run.
