First, an apology: I'm not a Blackberry user, but my company uses them.

You can use a Blackberry (9700 for example) as a tethered modem via USB, with the Blackberry Desktop app on your PC doing the setup.
But when you're doing this, can you receive voice calls?
Some other phones (e.g iPhone) can do so. They suspend the data session, take (or make) the voice call, and then resume data. Do current Blackberries do it too? Any restrictions or gotchas?

Never tested it myself as i prefer not to pay R2/meg to plug my phone in to my pc, but the general rule is if you in 3G the session should continue, in EDGE or slower then the session would be suspended, at least that's how normal phones work.

OK thanks. If you buy data bundles as add-ons to your contract phone, you can get the rate down quite a bit (of course). R2/MB is for people who don't plan to use data outside of BIS, or the Blackberry itself (but did it anyway). MTN now sells 500MB/month for R189, with out-of-bundle calls at the average 38c/MB rate.
