This has to do with consumers getting charged for Voicemails even though they don't want to leave a message
For the past few years I've always been frustrated by MTN for directing calls to voicemail if the called party has no reception or their phone is off. Even call diverts did not work. Recently vodacom has also implemented this strategy which in my opinion is taking ppl's money without their consent. Overseas, calls that go into voicemail will usually have a warning specifying that the call is being transferred into voicemail and will be charged after the 'beep'.
From Telkom phones, if you don't want to leave voicemail, you still get charged 1.60 excl vat and looks like it'll be increased once the mobile operators raise their prices soon. I wrote a complaint to CUASA (communications users association of SA) and they said they were not aware of it and they will look into it. They also said I must write to ICASA.
Do any of u have comments on this issue so I can write up something for ICASA?
