Hi,

Can VOIP be done through telkom's lines? ADSL or even a leased line.
I am not talking about Skype I am talkiing about routing phone calls from over seas to south africa.

yes and you do it using Skype. They have a side prog called SKYPE out which is PC to POTS ie pc to land line even mobiles. Calls terminating in SA will cost R1.56pm to mobile and R0.56pm to land line.

There is no peace without war!!!

To answer your question, YES!

asterisk[http://www.asterisk.org/] is open source software that runs on linux and routes VoIP calls through a PABX and visa versa. is this what you are looking for?

when i have time, i'm going to set up a test server at home. as soon as they legalise VoIP, i can launch a service and offer ppl local call rates to phone in my area... won'be making any money from it but I will be screwing telkom :)

Nice thats exactly what iam looking for, now if I can only do it without telkom noticing.....

Ok, and what about Wi-Fi, will www.aerosat.co.za still be prosecuted?
They must appear in the High Court October.

I'm sure they will, the legalisation of VOIP doesn't mean that other regulations fall away... sad as it is.

After speeking to Aerosat, they say they are still taking Icasa to court to get their equipment returned. They have already recieved some of their equipment due to a previous court date.

I asked them if they knew if there were changes coming to the wireless legislation, as hinted in the article on ITWEb ( http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/telecoms/2004/0409021643.asp?S=Internet&A=INT&O=FRGN ). They said they would look into it.

Does any else know if there are going to be changes or what the changes may be ????

VoIP isn't the only legalization taking place, there are some massive changes taking place in how VAN services are capable of being provided, including the ability for VAN's to provide their own last mile infrastructure (if I understand the announcement correctly).

Ok, and as I have previously stated, if you rub it into Andries Matthyses face that you are
selling Wi-Fi, you will/could get nailed. But the home-user should still list his node at
www.nodedb.com, Icasa simply can't kick down your door without very good proof. Your node at
www.nodedb.com is not proof at all, anybody could have placed it there. And why Andries are you
not confiscating www.wavestream.co.za towers ..mhh? Is it because they have ANC contacts?
