Hi guys

Came across the following site, http://mobile.telfree.com/features , has anyone ever heard of them or used their services before? I see they say Android - coming soon on their page, would be interested to try it out.

Are there perhaps other alternatives out there similar to this?

There are several products out there.

Gtalk on android phones now allow voice calls to other gtalk users.
Fring allows you to talk call other fring users for free
Skype same as fring.

FNB connect, same as above and you can call other numbers worlwide for R0.25 per minute (need to confirm if this rate is still applicable)

Thanks gents! Yip, of course I know about Skype, just find that it keeps crashing my phone.. :-)

Does anybody know how much data Skype for Android uses per minute. Both during a call and also how much data is used while it is running in the background?

I want to see if it will work out cheaper for me to call the people I call frequently using Skype rather than using the GSM network.

It's definitely cheaper, if you buy a data bundle or use Cell C's promotional data or something. Of course it has it's downsides. The other party must also have a smartphone, or PC, and sometimes when phoning a smartphone on Skype, it takes really long to connect. This is why regular phone calls are still around.

I have a 350MB data bundle - it would be useful to know how quickly this data will get used up. I dont want any nasty data bills at the end of the month if it goes out of bundle.

If someone knows the data usage on Skype then I can plan correctly.
