I need a voip solution for a small office. At the moment we only need 3 - 5 extensions.

Please advise me on what will work for me.

Depends on what the budget is? If you are looking for a very low cost offering look at Asterisk, Elastix etc. Software is free and pretty easy to setup

For that size you could probably go hosted rather than owning a PBX. Key will be reliable connectivity to the provider.

If you don't have the luxury of good internet you could go with an Asterisk based PBX with ISDN and VoIP handsets.

I don't want to break my head so I would prefer a ready made solution if anything is available.

If not I will need a walk-through for one of the above.

Drop me a PM if you like and I'll get someone to give you a ring.

Hi There,
You can get it all hosted through providers like Otel.

You van also contact the user Vukatel on this site. He caters for small organisations.

Tim

Does anybody know of any cheap ip gateways for 3 extensions, and 2 analogue lines? I don't need a voip provider, just want to replace an aging pabx with ip phones that can use 2 analogue lines.

Try the Opticon SBG1000 PABX from telkom business. Its an ideal system for SOHO

You can also try a Taurus Micro PBX it runs asterisk and works via SIP only, basic functions below
  • 50 DID numbers.
  • up to 10 simultaneous calls
  • 20 extensions
  • Inbound calls can be played announcements, music on hold and IVR
  • Voicemail with notification via email and a web control panel.
  • Call transfer and parking with music on hold
  • Intercom functionality
  • Day/Night mode and time condition functionality
  • Call forwarding
  • Ring groups
  • Central networked phone book
  • CallerID lookup
  • Automatic Phone provisioning
  • Call recording - 5000 hours
  • Easy to use web based configuration with dashboard and reports accommodate
  • send and receive faxes
Cost of box the last time I checked was around R2200.00, which includes the PBX and a broadband router loaded with ddwrt to help with the shaping/QoS of your internet line if you sharing voice and data.

Cost of SIP only account is R500 once off, with no monthly fees, and you can choose per or post paid.

You can use any sip phone on the market, scoop has some atcoms starting at R450.00 per phone, or if you don't have any cat5 cabling you could go cordless.

This sounds interesting. Where can I get it?
