I recently upgraded to a 200mb fibre line. I previously had a "landline" connected to my ONG which doesn't work as Telkom have discontinued that option. I asked for a voip line which apparently I have got retaining my old number. According to Telkom I can connect my standard analogue phone -HOW?
Do I have to purchase a digital to Analogue converter or should I just purchase a VOIP phone. I'm quite happy to run a cable from the new wireless router. And finally where can I get a basic good VOIP Phone - Takelot have a selection but I'm not sure which one to get.. I'm sure there's a simple solution but I had no luck with Telkom. Thanks

I personally use Yealink phones. But if it is telkom that has ported your number to voip then you need to get settings from them. Or if they have not ported it yet maybe look at another voip provider. I use VOX but not sure if can port a geographical number to them

You can connect your standard phone to the router if it supports voip and has the phone connector.
I have mine set up that way
All you need is your sip account details to insert into the voip capable router.

See this thread if you want to use your old analogue phone/s with a VOIP account connected via your router.

An ATA with normal analogue phones work, but you have to get the correct account settings for the ATA from your VOIP provider.

You plug your main analogue phone line into the ATA, and your ATAs LAN port to the router. But you must disconnect your analogue phone wiring from the connection to the telephone pole outside as it will only be using the old analogue wiring in the house once connected to the ATA.
