Ok, this is a bit bizarre, and I can't sort out the problem. So, maybe you guys know of a solution. I have a perfectly functional mic/headphones combo. I can record sound clearly in windows etc. But Bf2's mic setup util doesn't pick my mic up at all.

Even more wierd, is that the mic does work during the game, but at times the speaker (that indicates that you are using your voip) is red instead of green and people in my squad can't understand me because I am too distorted.

If anyone has any ideas?

Check in the Audio Options if you have maybe clicked Boost Mic Gain. That tends to cause distortion in many cases. Otherwise, try to move the mic further from your mouth.

nope, still have the problem. Its almost like its a network problem, as it only happens sporadically. Are you guys using unshaped bandwidth to play? Perhaps my voip packets are getting shaped?

I had the same problem! I have a SB Live 24-bit (stupid sound card) because it has one input for mic/aux/etc/etc.....

In your BF2 directory, there is a Soundconfig.exe (Can't remember the exact naming but you will see it there). Run that utility and adjust the mic with it. It worked for me! I have changed to a USB mic later on. It gives me better quality.

Hope it helps!

you could check under the audio options within the windows control panel to see what are the PREFERRED devices for the system, and set your sound card as the default for all.

I also had problems with the mic input on my sound card (problems everywhere, not just BF2), so in the end went out and bought a Logitech USB headset. That solved all my hassles.

wab i bought a logitech heatset with usb and it doesnt work with bf2 how did you get your to work

alpha in the bf 2 audio thing my mic doesnt work
but it works fine in bf 2

run a mic test in windows (have you done this?

some good ideas guys... I will try them out tonight. Forgive me if I end up in your squad and I'm doing lots of "testing.... testing... can you guys hear me ok" transmission ;p

kalladoob, I just changed the mic to Logitech USB Microphone, I still run the sound on the SB Live 24-bit. I suffered for quite some time to get the USB MIC to work in BF2, until I discovered the sound config exe in the BF2 folder.....

I am pretty sure that it should work with the USB headset as well.
