HI All

How do I go about setting up VOIP for local and international calls. What do I need to do this.
Have any of you used only Linksys products for this.

TIA

VoIP solutions

I can supply you with a VoIP gateway and setup an account with my VoIP terminator for you.

You will be able to make national calls and Cellular calls at R0.55 and R1.20 (excl. Vat) respectively. International rates vary depending on location but there is still massive savings compared to "you know who".

PM me and we can get together for a chat.

Obviously local calls are still cheaper with you know who. Are there monthly costs involved? Or is it like Skype where you just pay for airtime? I take it no incoming calls at this stage though?
Thanks in advance!

There is only a once off cost for hardware and installation, thereafter it is on a pay as you use basis and can be either prepaid or post paid.

The Gateways work on SIP or H.323 so can be setup to receive calls from a device running the same protocols(for free). The VoIP gateways can be intergrated with your office PBX to provide a seamless transision to VoIP for your company.

Question: I want to integrate VOIP with my South African headoffice PBX so that local (South African) clients can dial locally - yet be transferred to my branch in the USA via VOIP. (i.e. local clients can phone me in the States by dialing a local number). How do I go about implementing this?

PS: I'm currently using an Opticon 16 from Telkom... needless to say they're not in favour of VOIP.

Yes, this can be done.

If you have a gateway installed at both the offices in SA and US then you can have the routing in the gateway programmed to route all calls to a specific number(your US office number) through to that gateway directly. The cost of this call is free except for the cost of the bandwidth that you should already be paying for.

Alternatively, if you only have a gateway in your SA office you can transfer incoming call to your US office at the VoIP rate of your VoIP service provider which should be roughly the price of a local SA call(calling to the US that is).

Also to automate this process you can program your PBX to forward all calls to your SA number straight to your US number thereby negating the use of the receptionist in SA.

Needless to say, having a gateway in your SA office you will be able to do VoIP calls to other destinations at a fraction of the normal Telkom price too.

HI Inkbolt

We currently have a call centre based in Sandton that is using only VOIP to make calls to centeral Europe. Maybe if you are interested you can make contact with me.We can give you a solution that can save you a fortune in telecoms costs without changing you PBX, we wil advise.Remember VOIP has been around for many years overseas, and is use by major companies such as BT;TNA and Tele's. SA has only legalised VOIP last year Feb!
Let me know?!

Why not just register with Sipgate.co.uk and such providers.... if you (or a friend) have a UK address, you also get a local UK phone number. The same applies for sipgate.de (German phone number)

Incoming calls are free from landline... and Viop to Voip are free... for outgoing landline calls you need some credit on your account.

www.sipdiscount.com offers free landline calls to 39 countries ie
US, UK, Germany, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Argentina.

Download the trial edition, pay the 5 Euros and then you can
have unlimited free landline (not mobile) calls to these countries

With AAH setup a SIP trunk to sip.sipdiscount.com server
or install a Softphone (ie Xlite from www.xten.com) or an ATA
device connected to an analog phone

All these international rates are all very good and well, but I still have not heard what you guys can offer on mobile and national calls to South Africa. Can all of the mentioned sip providers give competitive rates as I have for South African destinations?

Since the biggest portion of a companies phone bill these days are still cellular, this should be a consideration in your choice of VoIP provider. That said, you can program your gateway to use multipule VoIP providers to really take benefit of the cheapest rate depending on destination dialled.

Be sure to check on call quality too, just because something is cheap does not mean it is good.

Looking at Sipdiscount.com is quite interesting. Look at the rates and you will see that out of 313 countries they have on the list we are at 74th (landline) and 201st (mobile) place with costs of 7.2 and 20.4 US cents respectively.

Worst is Thuraya with a cost of 108 US cents / min.

And where I am (Saudi) they don't even list it.

But the interesting thing is Zimbabawe rates are 6 and 10 cents
